Breaking: 2021 Budget to be passed Monday
The 2021 Appropriation Act would be passed into law next week Monday, Nigeria Senate disclosed this during Wednesday’s plenary.
President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahin Lawan announced this, saying that
Appropriation Bill would be passed before adjourning for Christmas break.
He said there will be opportunity for inputs from the presidency between now and Monday, stating that the legislative arm was willing to attend to fresh demands before final passage.
Lawan’s position was at the behest of the Federal Government’s request for a review of the 2020 Appropriation Act.
Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed had few days ago requested for extension of the 2020 budget implementation, saying government can’t meet up with the 2020 December deadline.
He said, “There was a late request for some more expenditure from the executive arm of government and we want to ensure our committee produce a very clean document so they can’t present this report today.
“However, they (the committee) said the report will be ready by weekend.
“Consequently, the Senate will hold a special session on Monday 21st of December, just to consider and pass the budget 2021.
“This is in keeping with our legislative agenda of ensuring that annual budget has January to December cycle.”
The National Assembly had last year reverted the national budget implementation to run from January to December each year.
