Abscondment: NCPC boss talks tough, vows to punish absconded pilgrim, operators
The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev. Yakubu Pam has charged the Christian Pilgrimage Operators (CPOs) to ensure zero abscondment in the December 2020 general pilgrimage exercise to Israel, Rome and Greece.
He gave this charge during a meeting with the Christian Pilgrimage Operators in Lagos recently.
The NCPC boss charged the CPOs to provide excellent services to their pilgrims. In his words, “I want to see improved strategies and quality services in this year’s pilgrimage exercise in order to do what is right and give Nigeria a good image”.
“Be a light and of good behaviour, and most importantly impact on the Pilgrims positively”. He added.
Rev. Pam explained that the meeting with the CPOs was aimed to deliberate on how to organize this year’s pilgrimage exercise.
According to him, ” we have come to discuss issues on good service delivery and to create rules that would guide the upcoming December general pilgrimage exercise”.
The No 1 Christian Pilgrim Officer of the Federation stressed the need for the CPOs to work with the Comission to curb abscondment. In his words, “the Commission have put in place a law that the guarantor of any pilgrim who absconds will be punished and so also any Christian Pilgrimage Operator who records any abscondment will be punished”.
He further explained that this is one of the major steps the Commission has put in place to ensure zero abscondment.
He enjoined them to be focused on enriching the spiritual content of pilgrimage exercise in order to give their pilgrims a life changing experience while on pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
