Breaking: Telecom Operators in panic mood, set to comply with FG’s unlinked NIN-SIM ban
Following the Federal Government’s directive through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to ban outgoing calls of subscribers who have not linked their SIM cards with the National Identification Number (NIN), the
Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) on Tuesday said they will comply.
In compliance with the directive, the Association in a statement on Tuesday which was jointly signed by its Chairman, Mr Gbenga Adebayo and Head of Operations, Mr Gbolahan Awonuga, noted that they were aware of expiration of deadlines earlier given and the last one being 31st March, 2022.
CAPITAL POST earlier reported that government has at the minute informed subscribers to link their SIMs with NIN to avoid being banned.
But as at Monday, the NCC’s data showed that about 73.1 million subscribers risked being banned to make calls as they failed to link their SIMS with NIN.
The lincensed operators said: “We can confirm that our members have received formal directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to bar outgoing calls on subscriber lines that are not in compliance with the NIN-SIM Linkage Policy requirement.”
The Association said, its members were committed to enforcing the policy which required that all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) must be linked to NIN, while they called on non-linked subscribers to do so.
The Association further shown their commitment to ensure that government’s policy was implemented to the latter and uphold the citizens rights to communicate.
