Mutfwang pledges to promote grassroots sports development to unite Plateau communities

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has pledged his administration’s commitment to promoting grassroots sports development to unite Plateau Communities.

Governor Mutfwang said grassroots sports especially Football, if properly harnessed, can be a unifying factor for peaceful coexistence between communities.

He stated this on Sunday, at Angware, Jos East local government Area Headquarters of the state when he attended the finals of the Chairman’s Cup football tournament organized by the Transition Committee Chairman Hon Markus Usani Nyam.

Mutfwang Represented by the Commissioner for Information and Communication Hon Musa Ashoms tasks the people of Jos East to live peacefully in their various communities.

He assured that his administration will live up to its responsibility of protecting lives and property while urging the youth to live in peace irrespective of any difference.

Governor Mutfwang commended the initiative of the Transition Committee chairman for bringing the youth together using the football competition.

During the match, Fobur B Ward FC, which played in the finals defeated Zandi Ward FC with 3 goals.

While Presenting trophies and cash prizes to the winning team, and other deserving players in different categories, who performed spectacularly during the one-month competition, the transition committee Chairman Hon Markus Usani Nyam, said the competition was a means to reuniting the people and discovered hidden football talents in the local government.

The Jos East TIC Chairman revealed that football competitions have not been successful without physical fights in the local government for the past 20 years, but was grateful that the most recent one was a success.

Hon Nyam noted that the tournament he organized would serve as a unifying factor henceforth, and would also end any existing dispute.

He disclosed that there are plans by his administration to organise another football tournament for the under 13 which he pledged to sponsor talented footballers from the various clubs to achieve aims in their chosen careers.

Speaking at the event, Chairman Football Association (FA) Jos East Sule Ajiji, commended the sportsmanship exhibited by all the Players within the 29 days of the competition.

The Commissioner of Sport Development Plateau State, Bashir Lawal, was represented at the event by his personal Assistant Mustapha Usman, and commended Hon Nyam for the initiatives.

The captain of Fobur B Ward football club Francis Kaze his Zandi Ward FC counterpart who lost Daniel Awayoung, in their separate interviews with Journalists, thanked the organizers for the opportunity given to them to showcase their talents to the public.
