Insecurity: Kidnappers killed monarch after taking N3.5 million ransom in Kogi

A monarch, Chief Solomon Tanko was killed by kidnappers in Bagana in Omala Local Government Area in Kogi East Senatorial District after taking a N3.5 million ransom from the family.

The monarch who resides in Bagana was on his way from Ogba to Patanyi when he was kidnapped along the way two weeks ago.

Immediately, the incident happened, the family reported to Omala Police Division that he was missing, only for the family to be contacted the following day by kidnappers demanding for the sum on N7 million.

After negotiations, the kidnappers agreed to take N3.5 million which was paid.

Unfortunately, the curious family waited to see his release and within 24 hours, his lifeless body was found dumped in the bush on Wednesday last week.

He was later buried the following day Thursday, 25th June, 2020.

Speaking with Kogi State Police Command over the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, William Ayah confirmed the incident.

He said the Commissioner on Police has directed investigation into the case in order to bring the perpetrators to book.

“They told us initially that he was missing, but the family later said they have been contacted by the kidnappers and after paying ransom, he was killed.

According to him, the family of the deceased monarch have sufficiently briefed the Police and investigation into the matter has commenced.
