An ex-House of Representatives member who represented Warri Federal Constituency, Daniel Reyenieju, has condemned attack on the Nigerian military that led to the killing of 14 soldiers, describing the development as a national tragedy.

The former lawmaker while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Sunday said, the killing was heart-wrenching and a significant loss to the nation.

“The recovery of 14 lifeless bodies of soldiers in the Delta Community has sent shockwaves throughout the nation, casting a shadow of mourning over our collective conscience.

According to him, “The nation is confronted with a tragedy of immense proportions, one that has robbed us of the men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving and protecting our country. I unequivocally condemn this barbaric act of violence that has not only ended precious lives but has also threatened the fabric of our national unity and peace.

“In the strongest terms possible, I denounce the perpetrators of this atrocity and extend my deepest sympathies to the families, friends, and fellow soldiers of the fallen. The loss of these courageous individuals is a loss for the entire nation, and their sacrifice will not be forgotten. Their commitment to duty and their valor in the face of danger exemplify the spirit of our armed forces, and their untimely demise is a stark reminder of the risks they face every day.

“I call for an urgently serious and exhaustive investigation into this calamity. It is imperative that the authorities responsible for this probe leave no avenue unexplored. Every piece of evidence must be meticulously examined, every lead followed, and every relevant witness interviewed. The investigation must be characterized by its impartiality and its commitment to uncovering the truth, regardless of where it may lead or whom it may implicate.

“The necessity of investigating all sides involved in this incident can not be overstated. It is essential that the investigation is not only thorough but also perceived as fair and just by all stakeholders. This will help to ensure that the rule of law is upheld and that the principles of justice are served. Only through a transparent and equitable investigation can we hope to provide some measure of solace to those who grieve and to prevent future tragedies of this nature.

“I also want to call for a reflection on the broader implications of such acts of violence and work collectively to address the root causes that lead to such conflicts. It is our responsibility as a society to foster dialogue, promote understanding, and support initiatives that aim to build lasting peace and security.

“As the nation mourns the loss of these soldiers, we must also reaffirm our commitment to supporting their comrades who continue to face danger in the line of duty. We owe it to the memory of the fallen to ensure that their legacy is honored through actions that strengthen our nation and contribute to a world where such tragedies are a thing of the past.

“My heart goes out to all affected by this tragedy. In this moment of national grief, we must stand united in our resolve to seek justice for the fallen and to work towards a future where every soldier returns home safely.
