The Provisionary Committee of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard has warned Nigerians that some unscrupulous were moving round to dupe and exploit unsuspecting Nigerians in the guise of “Federal Government plans to establish Coast Guard”.

Captain of the Chaplaincy Corps and CE & AO of the Provisionary Committee, Captain Noah Ichaba in a ‘caveat emptor’ statement sent to CAPITAL POST on Tuesday in Abuja, stated that those elements haved constituted themselves into economic package seekers (Eco-packs), scavenging on unsuspecting Nigerians.

According to him, they issued press statement in the media by spreading misleading information, stating that “FG plans to establish Coast Guard – as reported in Punch Newspaper of 19th November 2023, which they also countered the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.

Part of the statement read: “These are venomous enemies, have continued to infect the society with tainted merchandize, falsely dropping names of prominent persons, traditional rulers and such likes, for selfish ends.

“They are fake and pretentiously waging war against the creation of “Coast Guard – which, when established, has the capacity to bring Nigeria out of economic hardship, debt burden, diminished reputation and make her a lending nation.

“The provisionary Committee genuinely implore patriotic citizens to be wary of the group impersonating Nigerian Coast Guard. These are daring the Provisionary Committee with their misplaced warning of relevant Agencies and deceit of the general public.
“These charlatans should be avoided like plaque. They do not deserve patronage and should treated with legal sponge and liquid, to curb their excesses and to spare the establishment of the impending Cash-Cow of Nigeria.

“Appropriate Establishments and members of general public are informed that any name that is different from Nigerian Coast Guard, is fake. Any of such name is nothing but a strife fabricator, manufacturer of negative vibes, and is operated by deceivers.

“Nigerians are aware that a registered Business Name is for purpose of operating (in this instance), Private Security Guard. Such registration does not translate into a right to contend with the Provisionary Committee of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard over the facilitation of a Statutory Agency’s establishment Bill. Such permit is not for an illegal group to take to warning government functionaries or to strife where there is no need.

“Your kind attention is drawn to such detesting conduct for instant action against these base individuals who have breached their limits.

“Based on positive faith and resolve, the Provisionary Committee has laboured to bring to national and international limelight, by creating awareness about the indisputable necessity, resilient advantages, statutorily differentiated duties, credible role, enormous objectives and special place of Coast Guard Agency in Nigeria’s Maritime Industry, without which the Maritime Sector cannot function successfully, advantageously and reputably. This selfless, moral, patriotic and godly effort will not be allowed to be derailed”, the statement concluded.
