A top commander of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP), who is identified as Kiriku has died as a result of snake bite in the forest of Borno State.

He sustained injury from snake bite which he did not survive, according to information emanating from the forest on Saturday in Maiduguri.

A counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, gave this revelation via his verified Twitter handle on Saturday, noting that the Commander sustained the injury in one of ISWAP’s hideouts in Damboa Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno on Tuesday and died on Friday.

After the snake bite, Kiriku could not access treatment as anti-snake venom are only available in few hospitals across the country.
The late fighter was a field commander who operated within the Jiddari axis of Chiralia in the Timbuktu triangle and led many attacks and ambushes against troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno. He was said to have committed atrocious and heinous crimes which made him to be hiding all these while.

The Timbuktu triangle, a Boko Haram/SWAP stronghold, stretches over four LGAs in Borno which includes Damboa, Jere, Kaga, Konduga, and Gujba LGA in Yobe state.
