Group 2, Set 18, of the Centre LSD’s Leadership School, plans to Commemorate International Menstrual Hygiene Day 2023 with a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Campaign for Secondary School Girls in FCT-Abuja under its Community Development Project Task

Group 2, the Global Assets Team (GAT), Set 18 of the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD) Leadership School under its Community Development Projects(CDPs) Task will on Thursday, May 25, 2023, implement Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Campaign and Distribution of Sanitary Pads to Secondary School Girls in Abuja-FCT, Nigeria.

The Community Development project is part of the sublime requirements for graduation in the Centre LSD one-year-long Transformative Leadership Course Program aimed to birth highly inspired and self-motivated transformational leaders and change agents who will spearhead the new thinking burden for the development of Nigeria, Africa and the global community.

A press statement released by the Thoughtful Leader of the Group, Amb. Chibuzo Okereke stated that the project would target young adolescent girls and boys between the ages of 14 to 15 years who are about to or have just started experiencing menstrual bleeding and other changes in their body system.

The statement further highlighted the project rationale, planned program of activities and expected impact of the project, noting that the campaign also coincides with International Menstrual Hygiene Day 2023 being celebrated under the theme: “Making Menstruation a Normal Fact of Life by 2030.”

“The project would provide a platform for both young girls and boys to learn that menstruation is a natural phenomenon, bridge the knowledge gap and gain basic insight into the physical realities of menstruation and menstrual Hygiene management techniques.” Said Amb. Okereke
“the project will directly impact over 300 adolescent girls and boys who will gain practical insights into the management of menstruation and healthy menstrual hygiene practices. Participating Girls will also get a pack of Sanitary Pads each, while the boys will go home with soaps. The team will also distribute basic and simplified knowledge pamphlets on the management of menstruation to the students, and conduct pre and post-evaluation exercises to test the degree of impact.” He.said.

“According to the group, the expectation is that participants at the end of the campaign would become more confident, comfortable and display excellent menstrual hygiene management skills during menstruation and be able to transfer these skills to help other girls with the menstrual hygiene knowledge gap.”

Additionally, the project will contribute significantly to the global efforts at normalizing menstruation as a natural fact of life by 2030 as well as reinforce the Center LSD’s Leadership School vision of raising transformational leaders who are problem solvers and nation builders.

The event which will attract print and electronic media coverage is scheduled to hold at the assembly grounds of Government Junior Secondary School, Jabi, Abuja Nigeria, on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 10:00 am GMT+1.
