Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have arrested about 12 persons with the sum of N1.5 million meant for votes-buying in the supplementary election that took place last Saturday in Kano and Katsina States in the North Western Nigeria.

Kano State zonal commander of the anti-graft agency, Faruk Dogondaji stated this in an interview with journalists, revealing that 10 of the suspects were arrested in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State while two were nabbed in Kankiya Council Areas of Katsina State.

The suspects were said to have been arrested while trying to share money to voters before casting their votes and canvassing for votes.

Dogondaji noted that the suspects were arrested with N1,357,500 in Doguwa LGA, while two others were arrested with N242,000 in Kankia LGA in Katsina State.

“We will also be physically present at all the collation centres to prevent change of results,” he said.
He said the presence of the personnel in the electoral process would add credibility to the exercise.
The EFCC commander said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.

Doguwa LGA is the Local Government of origin to the House of Representatives Majority leader, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa who killed a voter while leading a mob action during the general election on February, 2023 which he is currently facing prosecution in Court.
