Abba Kyari’s wife slump as Court intensifies trial of embattled DCP over alleged drug trafficking

The wife of the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Abba Kyari, Hajiya Ramatu Kyari on Monday slumped at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

She came to Court to watch proceedings against her husband on the alleged drug trafficking and to have opportunity to see her husband who was brought to Court by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agents (NDLEA).

Ramatu who was well dressed in Islamic hijab slumped after Justice Nwite who is the trial Judge deferred applications filed by Kyari’s lawyer for bail of the accused and six others.

The defence Counsel pleaded for bail of Kyari and six others pending the determination of the substantive case at the Federal High Court.

Ramatu slumped immediately Abba Kyari was being taken away by operatives of NDLEA and she was carried to an office by operatives on the third floor of the Court building accompanied by Kyari’s lawyer.

The reason for her slump was not known immediately, but journalists were hinted that she is an asthmatic patient.

Again, the prosecuting counsel for the NDLEA pleaded with Justice Nwite-led Federal High Court not to grant bail for Abba Kyari and six others given the dangerous nature of the case.

NDLEA argued that Kyari, who hitherto headed the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) would escape from the country and make himself unavailable for trial, should he be released from custody.

The judge then adjourned the case for further hearing.

Kyari’s case got complicated after two co-defendants in the drug trafficking case pleaded guilty to charges brought against them.

The defendants, Chibuinna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Ezenwanne, made their plea on Monday at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Both men, who were the only civilians arraigned in connection with Kyari’s cocaine saga, were ordered to be remanded in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) till Monday when the application for their bail would be heard.
