Governor Bello Mohammed (Matawallen Maradun has called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on security in the country as the only available avenue of ending the increasing security challenges at hand.

He also said his administration is worried by the current wave of incessant attacks on innocent communities in the state just as he said he has no regret entering into dialogue with the bandits in the state which is now halted by the Federal Government.

Governor Matawalle made the first and the second assertions separately when he received the newly posted Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, AIG Ali Aji Janga on a courtesy call and later, in a state-wide broadcast which both held in his office sequentially.

Governor Matawalle told the visiting AIG that the current wave of security compromise is alarming and is getting out of hand which necessitate the need to declare a state of emergency in security in the country. He said that no one feels safe anymore and that the only way to return the country on the path of sanity is to act out of the box.

He commended the Federal Government and the Security operatives in the country for their commitment to the fight against banditry in the state but said that extra effort is required to contain the growing security problems that are mounting by the day. He said the problem in Zamfara state is quite unique from those in other places and therefore require very careful and constructive solutions to control it.

Governor Matawalle further told the AIG that his administration has never faltered in its support to the entire security operatives in the state and that he will continue to support them in any way he can to succeed.

In his response, AIG Janga, who was accompanied by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba Elkahana, commended Governor Matawalle for his commitment to finding a lasting solution to the security problem in the state and said that without the support rendered by Governor Matawalle administration, the entire work of the police in the state would have collapsed.

Later, in a statewide broadcast, the Governor said the current wave of attacks across the state needs to be tackled head-on with the combined efforts of all the security operatives in the state. He said that his administration would continue to support every genuine effort at ending the security breach mounting in the state.

He recalled that, in spite of condemnation from certain quaters against his peace process with the bandits, nobody denied the relative peace enjoyed when it held sway until those who were not happy with it sabotaged it leading to its suspension by the Federal Government. He said that the process was still potent and could have led to genuine peace accord as recorded elsewhere in the history major conflicts such as this across the globe.

While commiserating with those who lost their dear ones now and in the past, Governor Matawalle promised to continue supporting all internally displaced persons, Widows and orphan. The Government he said, will also continue to shoulder the medical needs of those injured and reported in attacks across the State.
