Multi-million naira property belonging to the former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has been sealed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

EFCC operatives reportedly arrived at the location in Kano on Friday to seal the property.

Kwankwaso, a two-term governor of Kano, represented Kano Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly’s upper chamber between 2011 and 2015 is a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

An operative of EFCC disclosed that the sealing was in response to a petition sent to the commission by some members of the family of former National Security Adviser Ismaila Gwarzo.

According to him, family members claimed that Abdullahi Muazu Gwarzo (Baba Gandu), a former MD of Kano’s defunct REMASAB, sold the family’s property to Rabiu Kwankwaso and refused to remit the proceeds to the family.

“The sealing issue is a family matter involving members of Ismaila Gwarzo’s family, and Kwankwaso was only involved because he was a buyer of one of the properties,” the source said.

The EFCC has yet to comment on its latest action on the property but gathered the anti-graft agency was looking into the former governor over allegations of diversion of N3.08 billion in local government funds.

In a petition filed on behalf of Engineer Abubakar Maisha’ani and Alhaji Najumai Garba Kobo, Barrister Mustapha Danjuma claimed that Kwankwaso received N70 million from each of the 44 local government councils (a total of N3.08 billion) for his presidential primary in 2015.
