IPOB central bank account in US closed over fraud

The central bank account of the proscribed
Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the United States has been closed over alledged fraudulent transactions.

The US account, CAPITAL POST was told on Thursday serves as a pool where members of IPOB pay their monthly dues and contributions which was used to fund the militia arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Meanwhile in a statement by the Head of Directorate of IPOB, Chika Edoziem stated that another account would be opened to finance activities of the group.

The statement pointed out that the group received a report from the bank that some yet to be determined persons reported that they were operating a fraudulent account and subsequently requested that it should be closed down.

The statement averred that its legal unit was working to open another account on the order of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who is now in detention in Abuja.

The statement urges loyalty from the members of IPOB worldwide, notwithstanding that Kanu is being detained, adding that they should obey the new command structure for the smooth running of affairs of IPOB.

“That the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, worldwide Nnamdi Kanu authorised the opening of the IPOB USA families were instructed to pay in their monthly contributions. That this same USA National account was also designated by our leader as the account for ESN worldwide contributions.

“Following a report to the bank by yet to be identified persons that this account is fraudulent, the bank requested that the account be closed,” Edoziem stated.

The IPOB leader was arrested in Kenya and extradited to Nigeria to face charges of treason and terrorism.

Since he was brought back, he has appeared in Court once, but yet to be formally charged by the Federal government of Nigeria.
