Exited by the performance of Super Eagles to have sailed to final in the ongoing African Cup of Nations, AFCON, President Bola Tinubu will on Sunday visit Ivory Coast to watch Nigerian players in final encounter with Ivorians.
His planned visit was confirmed by the Confederation of African Foot President, CAF Dr. Patrice Motsepe saying that Tinubu will attend Sunday’s final match of the Africa Cup of Nations in Abidjan.
Tinubu presence at the African football match in his official capacity as an incumbent President will be the first time since 1980 that a Nigerian president will attend a final match of the competition.
In 1980 in Lagos, the late President Shehu Shagari was a cheer leader when the then Green Eagles won the cup for the first time on home soil.
In 1994 when Nigeria won again in Tunisia, the Head of State at the time, Gen. Sani Abacha did not attend the final match.
In 2013, the Senate President, David Mark was at the head of Nigeria’s delegation when the Super Eagles won in Johannesburg, South Africa.
At a press conference Friday afternoon in Abidjan, Motsepe revealed that the Nigerian Vice President, Kashim Shettima told him that President Tinubu will be in attendance at the final match on Sunday.
