Senate Committee urge FCTA to start construction of Maitama extension of Abuja

Nigeria’s Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory has tasked the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to commence the construction of Maitama extension in Abuja.

The Panel headed by Senator Smart Adeyemi made the request after the submission of the project contractor Kataka Ce Limited to the Committee in Abuja.

Reacting to the request, the Executive Secretary (ES) of the FCTA, Shehu Hadi Ahmad assured the committee that the authority have set motion in place for the completion of Kyarmi and the process for a truce from the Army authority to enable the commencement of Adamu Aliero – Maitama extension project.

The Panel came hard on the poor presentation of budget performance of 2022 and inability of some departments and agencies to appear before it with relevant documents.

However, the department of transportation was such that came without appropriate documents and were dismissed to return with accurate documents to match their presentation.

It will be recalled that the Committee Chairman Senator Smart Adeyemi had earlier explained the needs for the FCTA authority and its various departments and agencies to appear before it for budget defense, stating that his committee can only present and defend their budget before the rest of the Senators with adequate knowledge from the horse’s mouth.

Besides, the Senate enjoined the legal department of the FCTA to advise appropriately, saying that they were not properly guided legally.

On the Area Council Secretariat, the Senate seeks to know the functions of the secretariat of which information provided to them were sketchy, a situation that got the members of the committee wondering why the office.
