…describes Okigwe’s highest votes as an appreciation to the governor
The Director General, Committee of Youth on Mobilization and Sensitization (CYMS), Chief Obinna Nwaka has congratulated Senator Hope Uzodinma for his re-election as the Executive Governor of Imo state in the just concluded gubernatorial election.
CAPITAL POST reported that Uzodinma, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, having polled the highest vote of 540,208 to defeat his closest rival, the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who got 71,503 votes.
Following this declaration, Chief Nwaka applauded the governor for the landslide victory despite running with strong contenders.
The CYMS boss also commended the electorates for the peaceful coexistence exhibited during the election.
Furthermore, responding to questions on a live program in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Nwaka described the news of the Imo State Government securing all the hotel accommodation in the metropolis as propaganda and rumour. In his explanation, he stated that he and his team of election observers arrived in the state capital, four days before the election, which afforded them the opportunity to carry out pre-election assessments and give an independent report.
When asked about the ideology behind Okigwe producing the highest vote in the election, he said the act is as an avenue from the zone to show appreciation to the Governor for the construction and completion of Owerri to Okigwe road. He also added that the serving Senator from the zone, Senator Patrick Ndubueze, the Senate Committee Chairman on Works and Housing who is also an illustrious son from Okigwe LGA was also a force behind the party’s victory in the zone.
In his words, “Okigwe people giving the highest vote is a sign of appreciation for the road and also having a Senator in person of Patrick Ndubueze who is a key stakeholder both in the State and National”.
Chief Obinna Nwaka who led a team of observers from Abuja, covering some part of Nwangele, Isiala Mbano, Owerri and Okigwe LGA noted that the election in Imo State was largely free, fair and conclusive.
He commended the INEC and security agencies for the preparedness, civil human relationship and deployment of sensitive material on time.
Nwaka further urged political parties and other contestants in the just concluded election to join hands in building the state.
Governor Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 540,208 votes while his closest rival Sen Samuel Anyanwu of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) polled 71,503 votes. Labour Party candidate, Sen Athan Achonu polled 64,081 votes to come third position.
