Police, Custom officers in free for all fight over prohibited goods in Niger

Tungan Goro area of Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State was on Tuesday thrown into confusion as Police personnel from Niger State Command and Custom officers from Niger and Kogi Command who were on routine patrol engaged in free for all fight.

A source told CAPITAL POST that the men of the Custom Service sighted a black Jeep suspected to have carried some prohibited goods with some police men escorting the vehicle. adsbygoogle || []).push({});">

The Custom officers began traíling the Jeep from new Wuse in Tafa Local Government upon the receipt of the information that the vehicle was carrying some prohibited items which informed the federal agency to stop the
vehicle for routine a search.

Sensing that the custom men had gotten the hint of their act, the driver of the suspected vehicle increased his speed and maneuver to join the convoy of the governor to take cover according to an eye witness.

At this point, operatives of the Service gave the Jeep a hot chase down to Chachanga bridge yet the Jeep refused to stop.

The altercation started at the Tungan Goro junction when the Custom vehicle was able to over take the convoy and blocked the Jeep then custom men alighted from their vehicle while the mobile police men on the convoy came out of their vehicle and deflated the tires of the custom vehicle.

The development resulted to free for all fight between the two agencies which was proceeded with sparodic shootings from the both sides putting the entire Tungan Goro residents in to state of confusion as residents started scamperng for cover.

CAPITAL POST further gathered that the two Federal agencies created a vehicular traffic, forcing road users to divert to al5ernative routes.

A staff sergeant of the Nearby 31 brigade of the Nigerian Army took the courage to intervene between the two agencies before the arrival of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Joshua Adedeji and the Comptroller of Niger Kogi Command of the Custom Mr B.O Kadejo añd normalcy was restored.

When contacted for his comment, the police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Niger State Command Mr. Wasiu Abiodun DSP confirmed the report saying that the custom men were attacking the convoy of the governor and the police on the convoy resisted which resulted to the altercation.

“There was an altercation between the police and men of the custom who were stopping the governor’s convoy and our men refused them.

“As a result the altercation started. If you need further information you can go to Government House in Minna to find out”, he told CAPITAL POST in a telephone interview.

It was not disclosed the content of the Jeep which was being shielded from Custom patrol team after the intervention.
