Police bursts syndicate printing fake dollars, naira in Gombe, recover $56,300, N265,000

Suspects in Gombe on Friday

Acting on intelligence, operatives of the Nigeria Police busted and arrested syndicates incolved in counterfeiting and faking dollar and naira currency.

The sum of $56,300 and N265,000 counterfeit notes were found and recovered from them immediately.

Twelve suspects of two syndicates were arrested on the spot when the Police swooped on them on Thursday in Gombe, North East Nigeria, revealing that they have been printing fake local and foreign currencies.

The Gombe State Police Command’s Spokesperson, ASP Mahid Abubakar, said the suspects were arrested in the Bajoga, Funakaye and Dukku Local Government Areas of the state, noting that one group members were arrested with 500 fake pieces of 100 dollars and N265,000.
They were busted after one Buba Muhammadu tried to buy drugs from one Muhammad Ismail in Sangaru quarters in Bajoga with a counterfeit N1,000 note.

He said Muhammadu was arrested and other members of the gang were subsequently arrested.

The police spokesman identified the first set of suspects as “Buba Muhammadu, 45 years, male; Jungudo Muhammadu, 53 years, male; Adamu Yusuf Mallum, 30 years; Abdulhamid Abdullahi, male, 60 years; Salihu Abdulhamid, 50 years, male; Abubakar Abdullahi, 35 years, male”.

The police spokesperson said the second set of suspects was arrested in Malala village in the Dukku Local Government Area of the state.

They were arrested with 63 pieces of counterfeit 100 US dollar notes.

Abubakar identified the second set of suspects as “Haruna Adamu, aged 60 years, male of Tanji Village Darazo LGA, Bauchi State; Garba Ibrahim, aged 25 years, male of Hashidu, Dukku LGA, Gombe State; Samaila Musa, aged 30 years, male of Gombe Abba, Dukku LGA; Sa’adu Muhammed, aged 23 years, male of No.10 Badarawa Quarters, Kaduna State; Yusuf Abdullahi, aged 30 years, male of Gombe Abba, Dukku LGA; Muhammadu Umaru, aged 26 years, male of Gombe Abba Dukku LGA”.

He said that all the suspects had confessed to the crime and would subsequently be charged.

Minna: Kashikoko Community traditional ruler, Nagya involved in armed robbery, murder, Lawyer petitions CP

A Minna based legal practitioner, Barrister Charles Ebuka Egbunike has petitioned the Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Abdullahi Adamu Elleman, over the involvement of the Traditional ruler of Kashikoko Community in Lavun Local government area of Niger state, Mallam Saidu Minin Nagya in criminal activities

The legal practitioner called on the Commissioner of Police to as a matter of urgency order the immediate arrest and prosecution of the traditional ruler and two of his subjects.

The district head and two of his subjects were alleged to have been involved in attempted murder, armed robbery and grievous hurt to extort property.

The two of the traditional ruler’s subjects alleged to have been involved in the grievous crime are Ibrahim Adamu,Zabokun and Babadu Yadi who are of Washe village in Lavun Local Government and Bida Local government in Niger State.

In a petition forwarded to the office of the Commissioner of Police and obtained by Journalists in Minna, Barrister Charles Ebuka Egbunike, alleged that the District head was said to have ordered two of his subjects to launch an attack on one Ndako Aliyu, a serving Mobile police who is an escort attached to the Etsu Nupe Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar.

According to the petitioner, Ndako Aliyu who is a native of Kashikoko community was traveling from Bida to his village to inspect his building project on a Bajaj Motorcycle with his younger brother Kuta Jibrin.

“While on the journey,the sum Five million Naira (N5,000,000) cash, three (3) water pump machines,11/2 hose pipe are with them during the journey”.

The lawyer alleged that while on that journey, “our client reached a place called Ruwako, a thick forest, and a riverine area along the road, and a group of people blocked the road and encircled them.

“The said people are more than Seven (7) in number, my client’s younger brother was able to recognize Ibrahim Adamu Zabokun and Babadu Yadi among others”, he stated.

The petitioner further alleged that Ibrahim Adamu Zabokun told Ndako Aliyu that they were on the instructions of Saidu Minin Nagya, the District head, to kill him.

At this point, Ibrahim Adamu Zabokun strikes “Our client’s right hand cutting the bones and veins completely, leaving a little skin while Babadu Yadi, further cut our clients younger brother waist and pushed him down from the Bajjaj and removed the Five million Naira (N5,000,000) and other valuables earlier mentioned.

Speaking in an interview with reporters in Minna, Wednesday, a community leader, in the area Alhaji Abubakar Ndakotsu, disclosed that one of the culprits, Baba Yisa Yakubu was arrested by some members of the community and taken to Bida Area Commander office, “only for the Area Commander to release him now going about freely in the community.

“He threatened us that nothing will happen”

The lawyer passionately appealed to the Commissioner of Police in Niger State CP Abdullahi Adamu Elleman to prevail on the Area Commander of Bida ACP Bakare Abiodun to produce him for prosecution.

He explained that to avoid any possible breach of security in the Community, “I’m calling on the Commissioner of Police to prevail on the Area Commander to arrest him so that they will not be a break down of law and order”

But in a swift reaction to the claim of the community leader, the Area Commander ACP Bakare Abiodun said the culprit was granted bail on health conditions disclosing that the culprit was brought to the station.

“The condition in which he was brought there was no way I could detain him on that ground. I granted him bail to a surety so that he will not die in the police cell to avoid further compounding the problem for the Police head.

“Infact, his surety came back to inform me here in my office that the said culprit is dead. If he died in my cell it would’ve been a case for the police to explain, he told Journalists in a telephone conversation.

We are conducting investigation into attack on Senator Natasha Akpoti-uduan’s family house – Kogi CP

Kogi State Police Command said it was conducting investigation into attack on Senator Natasha Akpoti-uduan’s family house on Wednesday with a view to apprehending the perpetrators.

The investigation into the alleged attack on the family House of Senator Natasha in Obeiba-Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State has commenced.

In a statement by the PPRO of the State Command, William Ovye Aya on Friday said, the development followed a report that the house was attacked by some unknown hoodlums.

Consequent upon the distress call received from one Yakubu Ovanja Aide to Senator Natasha on 16/04/2025 at about 0330hrs made to the Divisional Police Officer, attached to Okehi Division, stating that on the same date at about 0100hrs some hoodlums numbering about three armed with cutlasses invaded the family house of the said Senator and damaged some front window glasses. Immediately the information was received by the DPO, he mobilized his men in for on the spot assessment where he met a young man name Michael Akpoti in the house who narrated how the hoodlums used cutlasses to damaged the said building while trying to gain access into the house before he raised alarm which made the hoodlums to flee.

In view of the above, the Commissioner of Police has directed the deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Criminal Investigation Department to commence immediate and discrete investigation into the alleged attack to ascertain its cause with the view to apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

David Mark condemns Otukpo massacre, tasks security agents to go after arsonists

Former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has condemned in strong terms another attack on Otobi-Akpa, Emichi in Otukpo Local Government Area and Utonkon in Ado Local Government Area in Benue state by armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

No fewer than 15 persons were reported killed during the invasion by the armed men on Tuesday night in Otobi – Akpa, Emichi and Utonkon communities.

A worried Senator Mark over the incessant attacks that have left in its trail scores of deaths and properties destroyed said enough is enough.

He said it was time the communities begin to organise themselves into vigilante groups to halt further invasion by the murderers.

Senator Mark tasked security operatives to rise up to challenge to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice forthwith .

“The situation in parts of Benue state today cannot be said to be ordinary or accidental. It seems to me that it is an organised and premeditated action. We can no longer stand to watch our people killed needlessly for no just cause”, he stressed.

Senator Mark noted that ” in as much as our people should accommodate others in our communities, we must as a matter of necessity differentiate between legitimate residents and invaders ”

He, however, urged the people to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives in the task of restoring peace and order in the troubled communities.

He commiserated with families of the victims and prayed that almighty God grant the deceased eternal rest.
