OPEC Secretary-General, Barkindo, dies at 63

The Secretary General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Counties (OPEC), Dr Mohammed Barkindo is dead.

He died late Tuesday Tuesday at the age of 63, according to tweets by the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, Mele Kyari.

Kyari personally announced the death of the OPEC boss early Wednesday in Abuja.

“We lost our esteemed Dr Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo. He died at about 11pm yesterday 5th July 2022.

“Certainly a great loss to his immediate family, the NNPC, our country Nigeria, the OPEC and the global energy community. Burial arrangements will be announced shortly,” Kyari wrote.

Details of his death hasn’t been released yet, but he died in Abuja after he was seen participating in activities on Tuesday.
