Mr Emmanuel Bobinihi has been elected as the President General of Kaba Development Union, KDU.

The union is the umbrella body for the development of Oweland in Kogi West Senatorial District.

According to a statement by the outgoing President General of the Union, Engr Emmanuel Ajibero on Sunday, said election into various offices of the union was conducted successfully and Bobinihi emerged as boss.

The statement which was obtained in Lokoja, described the election that produced Emmanuel Bobinihi as President General of Kabba Development Union as most peaceful to date, utilizing modern technology that enabled participation from members worldwide.

“The Kabba Development Union has just concluded the election to form a new National Executive Council. The election process, which began in February 2025, concluded today with online voting,” he stated.

Ajibero noted that the election was monitored by members of the KDU Board of Trustees, community leaders, clan heads, politicians, and distinguished sons and daughters of the Owe community both within the country and abroad.

He explained that the Union’s leadership opted for a technology-driven process that was efficient and allowed delegates from various branches to cast their votes, ensuring that all members who are in good standing could participate.

He noted that the union is surprised to see people who are not saddled with any responsibilities within the Union mobilize thugs to destroy the KDU Secretariat, stressing that those who are to provide security for the people are the ones behind the ugly incident.

The Returning Officer, Mr Emmanuel Adamu, while declaring the results, commended the peaceful conduct of the delegates and pointed out that the process of the election shows that the Kabba community and KDU will go places.

“Our deep appreciation goes to our consultant for facilitating this online process, making it so transparent, effective, and result-oriented. We appreciate the opportunity he has given us to make it possible for all our branches to participate in making these choices of leadership devoid of security threats and in compliance with the state government’s directive on public gatherings at this time.

Rt. Rev. Jonah Kolo, the Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Bida has commended Governor Umar Mohammed Bago of Niger State over religious tolerance in the policies of his administration.

He said his tolerance was promoting unity among diverse people, stating that Bago’s inclusive leadership style, has become a beacon of peace and justice across religious lines.

Bishop Kolo gave the commendation while receiving a delegation from the state government, led by Hon. Jonathan Vatsa, who paid him a condolence visit following the passing of his mother, Late Mama Elizabeth Aishatu Kolo.

Kolo observed that Bago has remained faithful to his campaign promises by ensuring equity, fairness, and justice for both Christians and Muslims in the state.

“Since he assumed office, there has been visible peace and harmony across the state,” Bishop Kolo said. “He has shown that leadership is about everyone—regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation.”

The Bishop lauded the governor for carrying all faiths along in governance, stating that the Christian community feels seen and respected under Bago’s administration. He assured the governor of continued prayers and support, emphasizing that the governor is on the right path in his developmental efforts.

In a condolence message presented by Hon. Vatsa, Governor Bago described Mama Elizabeth as a woman of faith and grace whose life was marked by service and compassion. “Her enthusiasm for life and service to others was truly infectious,” the letter read.

The visit was not just a gesture of sympathy, but also a reaffirmation of the governor’s commitment to unity and religious harmony in Niger State.

The Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele on Sunday disclosed that the Senate was working on legal frameworks for the creation of State Police.

The lawmaker gave the disclosure in an Easter message as contained in a statement by his Media Office which was made available to journalists in Abuja.

He called on Christians worldwide to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ, asking leaders across boards to shun divisive agenda and narratives that could compound the country’s challenges.

Bamidele, currently representing Ekiti Central in the Senate, disclosed that the Authority of the National Assembly “is in the process of developing legal frameworks for the creation of state police as one of the measures to address insecurity in the country.”

In his Easter message on Sunday, the senate leader urged Nigerians at large “to consciously reflect on the virtues of Jesus Christ; learn from His consecration and live His life of purpose rooted in the pursuit of justice, love and redemption for humanity”.

The message reads thus: “As we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord, it is exigent we reflect on His virtues; learn from His consecration and live His life of purpose rooted in the pursuit of justice, love and redemption for humanity.

“Despite the animosity He suffered and opposition He faced, Jesus Christ consciously sought and secured freedom for the captives, peace for the troubled, comfort for the sorrowful, love for the dejected, justice for the oppressed and hope for those who are in despair.

“In Nigeria today, Christ’s example clearly presents us a glimpse of how we should live together as compatriots and not competitors, collaborators and not combatants, comrades and not contenders in the task of building a viable and virile federation that will serve the interest of all.

“The recent killings in Benue and Plateau States outrightly negated the virtues of peace and love that Jesus Christ taught during His days. The recurrent utterances by some political and sectional figures also belied the values of courage, perseverance and tolerance He evidently lived for. No country develops as a result of one section rising up against another vice versa.

“While the Authority of the National Assembly is in the process of developing legal frameworks for the establishment of state police as one of the measures to address insecurity in the country, we urge security agencies to work together as a team to track and apprehend all the masterminds and sponsors of terror attacks nationwide.

“We appeal to some political actors that always lash on the country’s challenges to push divisive narratives to learn from the example of Jesus Christ. Such actors are no longer playing opposition politics, but simply taking advantage of the country’s internal conditions in the pursuit of their own parochial political outcomes.

“Nigeria is our ultimate project. As a parliament, we are committed to the actualisation of this project. This is evident in all the legislative initiatives we are pushing since the birth of the 10th National Assembly. And our goal is to build a federation that will be noted for peace, progress and prosperity anywhere in the world.

“Regardless of their ethnicity, politics and religion, all actors should shun all forms of divisive utterance and join forces against the common foes of Nigeria and not to subvert our effort to build a strong and virile federation,” the senate leader pleaded.
