Niger governor reveals plan to establish University of Agriculture, Climate Change

Niger State governor, Mohammed Umar Bago on Wednesday revealed that his administration would establish a University of Agriculture and Climate Change to be located at Mokwa, Mokwa Local Government Council.
He gave this revelation at the inauguration of principal officers of for the Engr. Abdulkadir Kure University of Education, Minna.
The governor noted that Niger State would be returned to its original place of education, adding that the inauguration of officers for the University of Education which took place at the Government House, Minna on Wednesday was a right step in a right direction.
Bago emphasized on the need for Niger State to focus on science and technology related fields in order to fill the gaps in the educational system.
According to him, his administration would complete the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Teaching Hospital in the interest of the State and Nigeria in general, adding that his administration will make scholarship available for indigent students in public schools.
The criteria for the scholarship, the governor said, will be for students with five credits and above who are in their final examinations.
Meanwhile the pro-chancellor of the university, Prof. Kuta Yahaya had earlier presented the academic brief for the 14 programs accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Yahaya said that the NUC has approved a 3,000 admission quota for the university after due accreditation.
Bago, a former House of Representatives member, took over as governor of Niger State on May 29, 2023 after winning election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
