Minister hails traditional youth chiefs’ role in national development

Minister of Youth Development, Engr. Olawande Emmanuel Ayodele, has emphasized the importance of young traditional rulers in championing peace and security within their communities.

The Minister stated this at a two-day national retreat convened by the Traditional Youth Chiefs Forum of Nigeria, held in Nasarawa on Tuesday 29th April 2025.

The Minister, represented by the Director General of the Committee of Youth Mobilization and Sensitization (CYMS), Chief Obinna Nwaka, the Minister highlighted the crucial role traditional youth chiefs play in fostering unity and driving sustainable community initiatives.

He also expressed his commitment to supporting these young monarchs in achieving their goals and ensuring development in their various communities.

“The Federal Government is committed to equipping Nigerian youth with the required tools, training, and opportunities they need to become self-reliant and responsible leaders in their communities,” the Minister stated.

He further emphasized that patriotism, peaceful coexistence, and youth empowerment are essential ingredients for national cohesion and long-term development.

The Minister appreciated the Forum for previously bestowing on him the honorary traditional title of Matawallen Matasa of Nigeria (Guardian of Nigerian Youth), recognizing his unwavering efforts in advancing youth development across the nation.

The retreat drew an impressive list of dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Danladi Jattu, members of the legislature, the APC State Chairman, representative of Chairman of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Commissioner of Police, and esteemed traditional rulers.

Chief Nwaka was joined by Comrade Abbey Orogun Yusuf, CYMS Nasarawa State Coordinator, and his Special Assistant, Ambassador Nuhu Akuragba.

The event was themed: “The Role of Traditional Youth Chiefs in Peace Building and Community Development.”
