Kogi Police Command denies fatal accident in viral video

Kogi State Police Command has denied the reported fatal accident in some online media platforms that it happened in Kogi State, describing reports as handiwork of mischief makers.
In a statement of rebuttal issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Williams Ovye Aya which was made available to CAPITAL POST, insisted that the report was fake and mischievous.
Kogi State Police Command has denied The attention of the Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Police Command has been drawn to a very mischievous and misleading video making the round on Social media on the accident being falsely attributed to have happened in Kogi State.
The Command wishes to State categorically and unequivocally that the video of the accident attributed to have happened in Kogi State is not only the figment of the imagination of the author but totally false, fake, misleading and highly mischievous.
According to the statement, the scene of the accident was not mentioned and could not be verified in all parts of Kogi State, while social media handlers are advised to confirm the source of information available to them before publishing.
The author ought to have mentioned the specific location where the purported accident happened in Kogi State rather than being vague.
Moreso, no indication of when the said accident occurred. From situation Reports received from Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, traffic Sections, no such incident happened in the State.
All available evidence points to the fact that the purveyor of this fake news/video, knows fully well in good conscience, that this accident never happened anywhere in Kogi State yet, this jobless, malicious and mischievous character and propagandist attributed it to Kogi State just for mischief and misinformation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, urges all peace-loving citizens of Kogi State and the Country at large to discountenance such mischievous information which did not in any way happen in the State.
He further urges the Social Media handlers to always verify facts of any incidents before sharing it to guard against misinforming the general public.
To this end, the CP assures the law abiding citizens of the Command’s unwavering commitment in ensuring adequate Security of lives and property in the State.
He further urged them not to fall prey to purveyors of fake news but to continue to collaborate with the Security Agencies with credible and timely information in ongoing onslaught against crime and criminality in the State.
