Members of Ondo State House of Assembly have revealed that the case against the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa was withdrawn in the interest of peace in the State.
Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr. Olamide Oladiji, said the appeal against the Deputy was withdrawn so that the State can move forward, given the circumstances that has brought him as acting governor.
CAPITAL POST recalled that the Deputy Governor has been battling with impeachment by the members of the State House of Assembly over allegation of misconduct while Governor Rotimi Akeredolu travelled for medical vacation abroad.
Led by their team of lawyers led by Dr. Remi Peter, the lawmakers told the Appeal Court of their intention to terminate the case against Dr. Aiyedatiwa in the interest of peace.
“My lords, the parties in this matter have found a political solution to their problems.
“Therefore, on behalf of the Appellants, we are here to withdraw this appeal.
“The instruction to this effect was given to us yesterday and we have filed this morning the notice of withdrawal.
“In the interest of peace, we seek to withdraw this appeal,” counsel for the Appellants added.
The Deputy Governor’s lawyer, Mr A.A. Adewusi however, did not object to the case withdrawal application despite that he was served with all the necessary processes.
Likewise, all the other Respondents in the matter, including the Department of State Services, DSS, which was represented by Mr I. Awo, said they were not opposed to the peace moves and withdrew the appeal.
Consequently, a three-member panel of the appellate court, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, accordingly dismissed the appeal.
“This appeal, having been withdrawn, is hereby dismissed,” Justice Tsammani held.
