The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Siminalaya Fubara and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have differed over peace deal brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a political crisis that turned the former governor, Nyesom Wike and 27 State lawmakers against Fubara.
Fubara in a Christmas message to the people of Rivers on Monday defended President Tinubu’s intervention and told critics that the deal was not a death sentence, but would bring about a lasting peace in Rivers State.
He promised to implement the agreement in the interest of peace in the State and restoration of political stability.
Reacting swiftly to the statement by the governor, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP National Working Committee, NWC warned the governor not to go ahead with the implementation of the agreement, stressing that PDP was not a party to the agreement.
The NWC reminded governor Fubara that he signed an agreement without the input of the party on whose platform he was elected.
CAPITAL POST recalled that 27 lawmakers out of 32 defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC in protest over crisis between governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Amid the crisis, the lawmakers issued impeachment notice to the governor and while fighting back, Fubara ordered demolition of the State House of Assembly complex, after 5 loyal lawmakers passed a resolution.
