Following the defection of 27 Rivers State House of Assembly lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress, APC in show of loyalty to the former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, the Governor, Simi Fubara has ordered demolition of the State House of Assembly complex.
Lawmakers loyal to Wike, now the Minister of Federal Capital Territory have threatened to impeach governor Fubara on the order of Wike.
On Wednesday 10 buldozers drove into the Assembly complex and commenced demolition of the building.
This is even as the factional Speaker, Edison Ehie, led other lawmakers loyal to the governor were holding a sitting early on Wednesday before the demolition started.
During plenary, the pro-Fubara who are five in numbers passed a resolution that the Assembly complex was due for repairs as a result of explosion that rocked the building on October 30, 2023.
The Speaker revealed that the governor would provide a comfortable and safe place for lawmakers to have their normal plenary pending reconstruction of the complex.
The demolition is being carried out under tight security to avoid break down of law and order.
