Katsina State governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has ordered the cooking of food which will be served to residents of the State free during the Ramadan fast, saying nobody would be hungry across the 136 wards of the State.
In a post of his verified X handle which was sighted by CAPITAL POST on Saturday, governor Radda has also taken a step to ensure the mitigation of hunger pervading the State and ordered that a 50kg kilograms of grain be sold at N20,000 to residents of Katsina State.
He wrote: “In our effort to address the prevailing economic hardship and the escalating cost of grains, the Katsina State Government under my leadership will distribute grains at a subsidized rate of N20,000 per bag.
“The selected grains include maize, millet, and guinea corn. Anyone has the opportunity to purchase ten measures of the item and that each unit would be available for purchase at a price of five hundred naira, compared to the current market value of approximately one thousand five hundred naira.
“This is in addition to another consignment of rice also to be distributed to about thirty three thousand elderly and disabled persons as well as most vulnerable groups in the state.
“Furthermore, food will be cooked on daily basis during the month of Ramadan across all the 361 wards of the state in different centres so as to mitigate the prevailing economic hardship faced by the economic disadvantaged population.
“The government aims to ensure that no one goes hungry during this challenging period and that the basic needs of the people are met.
“Additionally, efforts will be made to support local farmers and encourage agricultural productivity in order to reduce dependency on external sources of food. The government recognizes the importance of food security and is committed to taking necessary measures to achieve it.”
CAPITAL POST recalled that Muslims in Nigeria are expected to commence their Ramadan fast on Monday, 11th March, 2024 if the moon crescent is sighted.
