Former President of the 9th Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan ha celebrated Nigerian Workers for their invaluable contribution to the growth and development of the country.
Lawan in a statement on Thursday to celebrate workers said there was a connection between harmonious society and sustainable economic progress which workers have demonstrated across the country.
He said: “On this auspicious occasion of Workers’ Day 2025, I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating the invaluable contributions of Nigerian workers to the growth and development of our great nation.
“This year’s theme, “Striving for Peace and Stability to Drive Industrialisation, Trade, and Decent Work for Social Justice”, underscores the critical link between a harmonious society and sustainable economic progress.
“As the backbone of our economy, your sustained labour fuels our industries, strengthens our trade, and upholds the ideals of social justice.
“The theme also resonates deeply with the challenges and opportunities facing our nation today, underscoring the fundamental truth that a stable and peaceful environment is the bedrock upon which industrial growth, thriving trade, and the creation of decent work opportunities for all Nigerians can be built.
“We, as a nation, have faced our share of challenges. Yet, through it all, the Nigerian worker has remained resourceful and productive.
“However, efforts must be made to create a more enabling environment for businesses to flourish, attract foreign investment, and develop our local industries.
“This includes investing more in infrastructure, promoting skills development, and tackling the challenges of insecurity.
“Achieving peace and stability is not solely the responsibility of the government. It requires the collective effort of all Nigerians. We must, therefore, embrace dialogue, tolerance, and understanding in our interactions with one another as citizens.
“Nigeria stands at a crucial moment where peace and stability are not just ideals but necessities for achieving industrialization and shared prosperity.
“We must reject violence and extremism in all its forms. And we must work together to build a society where every Nigerian feels safe, secure, and valued.”
