N1 billion fraud: EFCC arraigns former ABU VC, Bursar

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned the former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. Ibrahim Garba for the stealing the sum of N1 billion from the school.

Arraigned on Friday with him, is the former Bursar, Ibrahim Shehu Usman who allegedly connived with the Vice Chancellor to make the stealing of fund possible.

They were both arraigned before Justice A.A. Bello of the Kaduna State High Court for stealing and laundering of N1 billion.

They are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Kaduna State Zonal Command.

In a statement by the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said: “The arraignment followed months of discreet investigation triggered by a petition accusing the duo of diverting monies meant for the renovation of the popular Kongo Conference Hotel, Zaria.

The investigation established that over N1bn was allegedly stolen from different accounts of the institution by the defendants and diverted into their private accounts.
