Muslim-Muslim ticket: Aggrieved APC leaders withdraw from Tinubu’s campaign

In reaction to the nomination of the former governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima as presidential running mate, some aggrieved All Progressives Congress, APC have withdrawn from Tinubu’s campaign organisation, saying that it would be immoral for them to continue.

The aggrieved Christian leaders in the Northern extraction of the APC said they are no longer part of the group campaigning for the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, because of his choice of a Muslim running mate, adding that they have consulted well before taking their decision.

In a communique jointly signed by Prof. Doknan Sheni (Chairman) and General Ishaya Bauka (Secretary), and made available to journalists, Tuesday, the leaders maintained that the Muslim-Muslim ticket being sponsored by the APC was insensitive to the multi-religious setting of the country.

According to them, the Muslim-Muslim ticket would further undermine electoral chances of of Christian candidates across boards in various States of the Federation.

“As a multi-religious and constitutional democracy and not a theocracy. The present political atmosphere of Nigeria is different from what occurred in 1993 and therefore, a Muslim-Muslim ticket is unacceptable because, it lacks justice, fairness, and equality.”

“The chairman of the party is a Muslim, the deputy chairman (North) is a Muslim, the president of the Senate is a Muslim, and the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives are Muslims, and now both the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the party will be Muslim.”

CAPITAL POST on Sunday reported that the standard 2023 presidential flagbearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Bola Tinubu announced his choice of Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Shettima was a two term governor of Borno State in the North Eastern Nigeria which has been a hotbed of insurgency for years leading to heavy humanitarian crisis.
