Kogi lockdown: Pay salary, groaning Civil Servants tell Bello
Kogi State has been completely lockdown at government’s directive over coronavirus pandemic.
The situation, however, has brought untold hardship on workers who would have to work from their homes.
The hardship is further ocassioned by the lack of foodstuffs with school children at home.
Civil Servants are yet to be paid as at the time of this report and they are all fixing eyes on phones for their salary alerts.
Surprisingly, there is maximum compliance with the stay at home orders as part of measures against the coronavirus, but with hard times.
An executive of the Nigeria Labour Congress, who spoke with our reporter under anonymity said, “the governor should pay workers salaries and it will be sweet staying at home. ”
Though, Lokoja is a ghost of itself, as only security agents are seen on patrol, the situation is not the same in some major towns across the three Senatorial districts.
In Kabba in the western Senatorial district, commercial activities are on, but dull in some areas.
In Isanlu, it is the samething with workers at the local government looking forward to be paid salaries.
Anyigba in the Kogi East is full fledged in its commercial activities. Some residents who were interviewed believes that coronavirus is a big man’s disease.
A top civil servant working in Kogi State ministry of Agriculture, but who’s duty post is at Anyigba praised the State for the stay at home order, but lamented that their salary was yet to be paid.
He is further frightened by the Commissioner of Finance’s alarm last week, that there was reduction in the Federal allocation to the State from Abuja due to coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world.
“I have some friends in other states who have been paid, but in Kogi, we haven’t.
“Last week, the State Commissioner for Finance was on air saying that there was reduction in the Federal allocation, but I hope something would be done to pay workers anyway.
