Kidnapped Kebbi school students regains freedom after 118 days in captivity

Students of the Federal Government College (FGC) Benin Yauri in Kebbi State in North West Nigeria who were abducted by bandits have been released.

The students who are over 90 were abducted alongside some staff of the school.

Their abductors have been demanding for ransom which was not forthcoming, a situation that prolonged their stay in their captors’ den having spent 118 days.

Their release on Tuesday was confirmed by a father of one of the abducted students who couldn’t hold back tears while speaking with journalists in Kebbi.

A middle-aged man who didn’t want his name in print also confirmed of their release, but said he was yet to set his eyes on his son.

Kebbi State government was said to have prepared to receive them as the students were already on their way from the forest.

The students were abducted on 18th June, 2021.

Our correspondent could not confirm if the students all survived since that time before filing this report.
