Father of a 16 year old student of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina State, Garba Shuaibu, said, he would rather allow his child stay at home rather than going to school that is not well secured.

Garba Shuaibu who spoke in a telephone interview with Kaakaki on AIT which was monitored by CAPITAL POST on Tuesday morning, said the family was devastated when they heard of abduction of their wards from their school dormitory.

“When we learnt that our children were abducted from their school by the bandits, we became apprehensive, all the family became devastated and we keep praying to the Almighty Allah for their release.

“When the boys were in captivity, everybody in the house, we were apprehensive”, he said.

“But when we heard of their release we were thrown into joy.”

According to him, he learnt that the schoolboys were abducted around 1pm.

Speaking on the condition his boy, Haruna Garba, immediately he came back from captivity after spending one week, the father said, the boy was emaciated and sick, adding that they were subjected to hunger.

Asked if he will allow his child back to school, he said:

“Before I allow him to go back to school, there has to be protection of the school, not only in that school, but the entire Katsina State.”

Father Garba explained that they least expect that abductions would take place in that part of the State.

“We didnt expect abduction to happen at all.”

Responding to the question on the difference between Chibok girls abduction in Borno State six years ago and Kankara in Katsina State, he said, “while Chibok girls were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents, Kankara schoolboys were abducted by bandits.”

“Chibok girls were abducted by Boko Haram, but that of Katsina were bandits.”

“So we want government to protect our Schools, and do its best to protect all of us.”
