Fubara vs Wike: PDP National leadership should resign, if they lack capacity to settle crisis – Sule Lamido

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido

Former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido has lashed out at the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for allowing President Bola Tinubu to wade into political crisis between Rivers State governor, Siminalaya Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State.

Lamido said, it was a shame and embarrassing for Fubara who is a governor on the opposition Peoples Democratic Party to sign a peace deal out of intimidation and fear without the PDP leadership stepping into the case.

The politician reacting in a post on his X handle (formerly Twitter), said, President Bola Tinubu has nothing to offer in the crisis other than taking advantage and exploiting it to the gain of his All Progressives Congress, because the PDP has refused to protect their governor.

He said: “Pray do we still have the National Working Committee of the PDP? Or better still, do we have a party called PDP? If we have one of the two, how come their total absence in the saga playing out in the PDP Family in Rivers?

“Is the docility of the leadership of the PDP so comatose to the extent that President Tinubu of APC, our sworn rival and opponent is now the grand patriarch of PDP? It is inconceivable that a political party will simply sit back and allow its fortunes taken over by a rapacious scavenger, the APC.

“What President Tinubu did in the so-called peace meeting is not brokering peace in Rivers State, but using his office to enhance the fortunes of his political party.

“There many areas yearning for peace in the country where President Tinubu’s political expertise, sagacity and wisdom is needed. What skills has he applied to stop the killings of citizens in Nigeria, which is his primary responsibility which he has conveniently looked away.

“Unwittingly the so called peace accord in Rivers only planted the mines which will definitely explode in the not too distant future with collateral consequences on the entire country.”

Lamido added that the peace accord signed by governor Fubara should be discarded into trash can, noting that if not settled, it would snowball into ethnic crisis in Rivers.

He urged the PDP to take every act of unconstitutionality and illegality to court to wade off APC from Rivers State.

“Asari Mujaheed Tokubo and Chief Edwin Clark have alluded to this last week. The PDP National Executive should feel sufficiently embarrassed if not slighted by the action taken by President Tinubu to reward a political mercenary with PDP fortunes in Rivers State.

“More to the eternal shame of PDP NWC that a tribal voice of Ijaws through Chief Edwin Clark press conference has to be deployed to challenge the illegality and unconstitutionality of the peace accord.

“Like Chief Clark said in the press conference, if Tinbu as the then Governor of Lagos could stand up and fight President Obasanjo’s wholesome power and personality and endure to overcome, can’t PDP do likewise?

“The PDP must take off from where Chief Clark started to fight this illegality through our justice system and all other legal means possible! If the National Executive of the PDP does not have the nerve to stand up and protect its own, it should honorably step down to allow for the election of competent hands.

“To Gov Fubara of Rivers State, the document you signed was under an environment not friendly to real conflict resolution and it was presided by the force of fear, intimidation and blackmail. Therefore shred the document and toss it into trash can.

“Gov Fubara may wish to know that President Tinubu, who chaired the meeting, was running with the dear and hunting with hound!”

Dreadlocks order against gangsters linked to insecurity in Niger — Commissioner clarifies

Published

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Niger State, Hon. Binta Mamman has clarified that the governor’s order on cutting of dreadlock was targeted at a group of emerging gangsters responsible for insecurity in Minna, capital of Niger State.

In a statement she made available to journalists on Friday, the Commissioner said they are youths with dreadlocks who are identified by a particular hairstyle pattern linked to rising insecurity in Minna.

This group of individuals are the target of the Governor’s order and when seen they should be arrested and the reason is to dismantle the formation and spread of emerging groups before they become deeply rooted in the state.
Mamman said, “Niger State Government has on Friday reiterated its position to clamp down on nefarious youths groups with distinct hairstyles causing mayhem in parts of Minna, the State Capital.

“In a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Binta Mamman, the Farmer Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago’s executive order still stands; however, it will only affect those who wear dreadlocks in front while the back of their heads is shaved.

“It should be noted that Governor Bago had given a marching order to security agencies that henceforth any youth who carries dreadlocks be arrested and his hair barbed.”

The commissioner added, “This is not a blanket criminalisation of hairstyles but a preventive measure informed by intelligence and ongoing trends. The aim is to dismantle the formation and spread of these emerging groups before they become deeply rooted in the state.

“The government has observed a disturbing trend among some youth groups where a distinct hairstyle that appears to be evolving into a form of group identity or cultism.

“The defaulters that will be arrested are those who wear certain dreadlocks in front while the back of their heads are shaved. The security agencies know them because they walk in droves.

“With intelligence reports, this particular dreadlocks style has increasingly become associated with members of these groups.”

The commissioner reiterated that the curfew imposed by Bago was not intended to cause any sort of hardship, saying the dusk-to-dawn curfew was not applicable to everyone but motorcycle riders and tricycle operators.

“The government fully understands the temporary measure this decision may pose to Nigerlites and hardworking Nigerians who go about their legitimate businesses,” she said.

She further reassured Nigerlites that the government is taking proactive measures to address the growing insecurity that has affected parts of the state capital in recent days.

She said, “Governor Bago is concerned about the safety of lives and property and that it remains the topmost priority of his administration.

“It is saddening to see that for some time now, we have experienced maiming, and violent attacks, with several lives lost to attacks by these miscreants who operate at will, brandishing various dangerous weapons in a manner akin to cult groups.

“I tell you without mincing words that these groups are young boys who are between the ages of 13 and 22 and they exploited the ease of movement provided by motorcycles and tricycles to commit crimes across various parts of Minna and evade arrest.

“If these boys are not restricted, they can carry out criminal activities in one part of town and vanish into another within minutes. Their swift mobility not only makes arrests difficult but also enables the rapid spread of their operations.
