Irked by Niger State Governor’s directive to arrest anyone with dreadlocks in the State, Ace Nigerian musician Daddy Showkey has replied the governor, Umar Bago to shave his beard before he could ask security operatives to arrest anyone with dreadlocks.
Governor Bago had at the security meeting in Minna on Tuesday directed security agents to arrest anyone with dreadlocks in Niger.
He believed that people with dreadlocks are irresponsible and constitutes security risk, stating that the measure is part of his government’s efforts to curb the resurgence of insecurity in Minna, the state capital.
However, reacting to the declaration in an Instagram post on Thursday, Daddy Showkey, who is known for his signature dreadlocks, questioned whether dreadlocks were the cause of insecurity.
While revealing plans to cancel his scheduled trip to Niger State following the directive, Showkey challenged the governor to cut off his own beard first before cutting people’s hair.
He wrote: “Mohammed Umar na Dada be your problem? I dey come to Minna but now that you asked your security agents to cut off dreadlocks, so hold your state but make you cut your beer beer.”
The directive has attracted widespread backlash specifically from youngster artists who believed wearing dreadlock hairs is part of their brand.
