FIRS unveils e-invoicing committee to drive tax compliance

In a bid to drive tax compliance in a transparent and efficient manner the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS has inaugurated the National E-Invoicing Solution Inter-Agency Steering Committee on Tuesday in Abuja.

This is part of the effort of the board to boost revenue, even as tax system policies are being introduced and implemented by the current management of FIRS.

In a statement shared on the board’s X handle, the service said, the committee has been formally inaugurated.
“On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) formally inaugurated the National E-Invoicing Solution Inter-Agency Steering Committee at its headquarters in Abuja”, the terse statement partly read.

The event featured a presentation of the roadmap for the implementation of the E-Invoicing Initiative, including key milestones intended to ensure a seamless rollout.

“The event featured a detailed presentation outlining the roadmap and strategic milestones for the successful implementation of the E-Invoicing Initiative”, it added.

Among the key takeaways from the session was the emphasis on collaboration between the FIRS and other critical stakeholders in the financial and regulatory sectors.

The FIRS also noted that the initiative demonstrates its commitment to leveraging technology and partnerships in its mission to reform Nigeria’s tax administration landscape.

“A major highlight of the session was the emphasis on collaboration between FIRS and key stakeholders such as the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), Nigeria Customs Service, financial institutions and taxpayers.

“This multi-stakeholder approach reflects FIRS’s dedication to harnessing technology and strategic partnerships to drive transparency, improve efficiency and promote voluntary tax compliance within Nigeria’s tax ecosystem,” it added.

The E-Invoicing initiative is expected to play a key role in reducing tax evasion, automating transaction tracking, and fostering accountability in commercial exchanges across sectors.
