Buhari’s praise singer risks Shariah Court’s trial for featuring woman in music
A popular musician in Kano, Dauda Kahutu runs into trouble and risks being prosecuted as a Shariah Court in Kano has ordered the Police to investigate him for featuring a 20 year married woman, Mariam Muhammad in his music.
Kahutu who’s stage name is Rarara has been President Muhammadu Buhari’s praise singer and popular musician for the All Progressives Congress for quite sometimes.
He could be quizzed any moment for featuring a married woman seen in his
music videos which he ought to have known that it’s against the Islamic faith.
To be investigated, according to Shariah Court’s directive, are Maryam and the singer’s producer, Abubakar Maishada, for their roles.
Maryam’s husband Abdulkadir Inuwa was embarrassed and filed a suit before the Shariah Court in Kano in which he alledged that the singer had eloped with his wife in a video music titled: ‘Jihata, Jihata ce.”
When the case came for hearing, the musician’s acclaimed ignorance of the marital status of Maryam was not admitted by the presiding judge, Justice Sarki Yola.
Having refused to dismiss the case as sought by the musician, the judge ordered
the Divisional Police Officer, Kwali Police Station to investigate the matter and present his findings to the court.
The husband claimed that his wife left home few months after her marriage to him, without his knowledge before surfacing in the controversial video.
Counsel for Rarara asked the court to dismiss the case, as no investigation had been done by the police on the claims of the husband, but the judge asked the police to summon the singer and his producer with a view to investigating the veracity of the claims.
