Breaking: EFCC arrests ex-Chairman of FIRS, Fowler over N5 billion fraud allegation

Erstwhile Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Babatunde Fowler has been arrested in Lagos.

Sources said on Monday that the zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) nabbed him over alledged N5 billion stolen from the coffers of FIRS when he chaired the revenue generating agency.

He is currently being grilled by operatives of the anti-graft would probably be detained depending on the outcome of the interrogation.

Sources hinted that Babatunde Fowler’s arrest was linked to earlier arrests made in 2019 involving seven senior officials of FIRS who were later detained over a multi-billion Naira scandal.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration sacked him over governance concerns and dwindling revenues.
