Auchi Polytechnic Rector, Al-Hassan lauds achievements of alumni, tasks them on industrial, educational revolution in Nigeria

The acting Rector of Auchi Polytechnic, Abubakar Zakariyya Al-Hassan has lauded the lofty achievements of former students of the Polytechnic in their various fields of endeavours, while he tasked them to trigger industrial and educational revolution in Nigeria.

In a keynote address titled: “Human capital development, an obligation of ex-students to their alma mater”, he delivered at the annual lecture of the Polytechnic, Abuja Chapter, he noted that it was a privilege to pass through the institution given that it’s one of the most focused Federal Polytechnic in Nigeria, whose graduates since its inception in 1963 have formed the nucleus of the nation’s political and socio-economic leadership.

In sustaining the educational legacy of the institution, the Rector said, the school has gone into capacity building and human capital development which were needed in technological driven society.

The Rector recalled that in those days, heads of higher institution stands before alumni of the school to explain the state of their former institution, but achievements of former students of Auchi Polytechnic in various fields of endeavours have spoken for itself.

“We have seen it in you, great CEOs, achievers, professionals of both national and international repute, captains of industries and masters of commerce.

“Across, you exist. From the cradle to the sublime in the Nigeria’s chequered history of growth and development, you exist. Among the top military brass, impeccable statesmen and dedicated politicians, you exist.

According to him: “Alumni contribute significantly to an institutions synergy, links and development . A robust alumni is a catalyst that attracts both industrial and educational revolutions. It is a buffer, a protagonist and the epicenter that energies the destiny of an institution, it is the uno numero of all times.

“I must not fail to inform you that Auchi Polytechnic in recent times has gone into capacity building, human and capital infrastructure, more scientific innovations.

He further revealed that plans were afoot to transform the Polytechnic into the University of Science and Technology, and while they awaits the presidential assent to the bill that would finally make it a University, he commended lawmakers in the upper and lower legislative Chambers of the National Assembly that made the legislation scale the third reading.

“It’s on the verge of it’s transformation from a first class Polytechnic to a City University of Science and Technology and in this regard, I will appreciate the effort of Senator Frances Alimikhena and Hon. John Oghuma and Peter Akpatason as well as Hon. Pally Iriase for their support in these regards.”
