APC Senator, Abbo ‘openly’ back calls for Buhari’s impeachment

Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial district and a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Elisha Abbo has openly supported the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari on a national television.

Speaking on Friday on Channels Television, the controversial lawmaker
said, he is in full support of impeaching President Muhammadu Buhari from office over security challenges.

CAPITAL POST recalls that on Wednesday, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senators caucus attempted to raise a motion through the minority leader, Senator Philip Aduda over insecurity in the country and particularly in Abuja, after which it would have led to moving an impeachment notice, but was shut down by the Senate President, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan.

The Senators, thereafter, staged a walkout in protest and told journalists that a six weeks ultimatum had been issued President Muhammadu Buhari to fix insecurity, failure which they would commence impeachment proceedings against him.

The opposition lawmakers assured journalists that a large number of the ruling APC Senators are on the same page with them.

The brawl in the Senate was at the backdrop of escalating insecurity which even the presidential guards were attacked by terrorists in Bwari area of the Federal Capital Territory.

Meanwhile, the Adamawa lawmaker is a well known member of APC having defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling APC,
who insisted that, “Buhari has failed in his fundamental responsibility to secure the lives and property of the people.”

The presidency in a statement backed the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, for not “entertaining the ridiculous motion to impeach our President”.
