Ahead of the controversial National Executive Committee (NEC) on Tuesday in Abuja which Oshiomhole would not be present, his possible replacement in acting or substantive capacity is causing confusion in the folds of Southsouth All Progressives Congress (APC).
Indications that cracks are beginning to emerge in the ranks of anti-Oshiomhole’s forces as at Sunday stems from the inability of Southsouth APC leaders to conclude on who succeeds the embattled chairman. com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"> js">
CAPITAL POST learnt on Sunday that governors who are against Oshiomhole in a meeting on Friday in Abuja rejected the choice of the party’s National Secretary, Mr. Victor Giadom who was earlier touted as Oshiomhole’s replacement.
Mr. Victor Giadom hails from Rivers State, Southsouth Nigeria.
Last week, Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki convened a meeting that have four of President Buhari’s Ministers from the Southsouth in attendance. There are Godswill Akpabio, Festus Keyamo, Rotimi Amaechi, Goddy Jedi-Agba and Dr. Osagie Ehanire.
The leaders were unanimous in the sacking of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, but insisted on a Southsouth person as his replacement.
Reading a memo at the meeting, Governor Obaseki reportedly said: “as a party we commend our brother, the acting chairman of the APC Victor Giadom, for rising to the occasion by providing leadership for the party in these trying times.
“We fully support the convening of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, March 17th, as the NEC is the only recognized organ under the constitution of our party to resolve these crises.”
Obaseki, reading from the communique issued at the end of the meeting said the APC “should respect the present zoning arrangement by retaining the chairmanship of the party in the Southsouth zone, even in acting capacity.
“It further resolved that the most senior party officer from the zone being the Acting National Secretary, Chief Victor Giadom, should be confirmed Acting National Chairman of the party at the Tuesday emergency NEC meeting.”
The Chairman of the APC Reconciliation Committee, Chief Adebisi Akande, on Saturday expressed concern over the rate at which party members are resorting to litigation to resolve issues that could be handled internally.
