Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe has claimed that Abuja has become haven for bandits and terrorists, while urging security agencies to double their effort to stem the tide.

The lawmaker in the upper legislative Chamber who is of the Labour Party, said, the worsening security situation in FCT must be confronted headlong to make Abuja safe for all Nigerians.

The Senator who is the Chairman Committee on Women Affairs, made this known to journalists on Thursday. She acknowledged the progress made by security agencies but believes that a lot still needs to be done.

She lamented that many terrorists had infiltrated FCT in the past and
were now hidden in all parts of the city and the government wasn’t proactive in checking their movement.

“I think several things happened, Remember the time that Kuje prison (Correctional Centre) was  invaded and a lot of terrorists came in, went in there and released their people who were imprisoned.

“Does  anybody wonder where they go? They infiltrated the town, if you go across Mabushi, behind the minister’s quarters, you would find them there. They are all over.

So the terrorists entered and nobody bordered The security agencies really need to be more pro-active because once we can tackle insecurity people will go back to the farm. Food security will improve, so many things will improve”.

According to the senator, FCT deserves more policing  in order to checkmate the activities of criminal  elements who have in recent times made lives a nightmare for residents.

In another development, Senator Kingibe re-affirmed the need for synergy between the legislature and executive for effective policies and programmes to make FCT safe.

She implored the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyeson Wike to understand her status as the FCT Senator irrespective of party affiliations on issues that affect the constituents.

“The minister must understand that once you have been elected, INEC has declared you and Court affirmed you, it doesn’t matter who voted for you or who didn’t, you become elected for everybody. Senator ‘Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is the President regardless of who voted for him/or otherwise.

“The same way I am the Senator of the Federal Capital Territory, regardless of who likes or who doesn’t . That is the way it’s going to be for next three and
