Respite came the way of the popular Islamic Singer, Ahmad Abdul as the Department of State Security Services (DSS) which took him into custody has released him in Kano.

He was accused of releasing a blasphemous song titled ‘Barhamas Gwaska’ which was against the Islamic faith.

The Islamic Singer was reportedly arrested by the DSS to avoid breaking down of law and order even as the controversial music has caused tension, this newspaper gathered.

The Security agents said the singer was taken into protective custody to save his life from the mob and other reactionary moves that tended to cause violence.

Abdul tendered an apology to the entire Muslim community, Kano state government, and Islamic scholars, while in detention. He wasn’t immediately released after the apology though.

Confirming his release from custody today June 21, the Executive Secretary of Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board, Ismaila Na’abba Afakallah, said he had received hundreds of petitions against the song from concerned citizens. Afakallah said he reported the singer to the DSS which later arrested him at a hotel where he had been hiding for days to save him from the mob.

“He has been released as he regretted and apologised over his offence, promising not to repeat it.”
