Lagos Police redeployed DPO over ‘office sex’ embarrassment, loss of pistol

Police Command in Lagos State has commenced investigation into sex allegation at a Police Station by a DPO who lost an official pistol in the process.

There were media reports that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of
Denton Police Division, Adegoke Atilade, allegedly had sex in his office which the police authority was not taking it with kid gloves.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu,in Lagos said the Police officer had detained his lover, Jennifer Madueke, over pistol which could not be found after having sex with her in his office.

The police officer after detaining his lover for three days transferred her to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, where she continued her detention.

The DPO invited lady Madueke to his office on August 27 being Friday and slept with her throughout the night and release her early at about 5am on Saturday.

A week after, reports said Miss Madueke was invited by the DPO where he accused her of stealing his official pistol on night they have sex and eventually detained her.

He allegedly kept and tortured her in his cell till September 6, telling her to confess to stealing the pistol. He thereafter took her to SCIID from where she led the police to her house for searching and possible recovering the missing pistol.

The statement said no Police Service pistol was found in her apartment, a situation that prompted the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, to order an investigation into the incident and an immediate redeployment of Mr Atilade from Denton Police Division.

The statement said: “This is to inform the general public that the Lagos State Police Command is not oblivious of the reported case of theft of service pistol against one Jenifer Madueke ‘f’ and the allegation of sex in the office against DPO Denton Police Division, CSP Adegoke Atilade as published on page 4 and 5 of today’s edition of the Punch.

“In the interest of fairness and justice, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered an independent, thorough and unbiased investigation into the case.”

Mr Ajisebutu said appropriate actions will be taken against any one found culpable at the conclusion of the investigation, and justice would be served to all parties.

Mr Ajisebutu, a chief superintendent of police, said the public would be kept abreast of developments in the case.
