EFCC didn’t arrest me over APC Chairmanship ambition – Sen. Al-makura

Former Governor of Nasarawa state, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has cleared air on allegations of his arrest by the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

He however admitted he was invited alongside his wife by the anti-graft agency based on petitions again at him.

He debunked allegation making round that he was arrested by the EFCC because of his ambition to become the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The lawmaker who was reacting to allegation of his detention while speaking with BBC Hausa which was monitored by. CAPITAL POST in Lafia on Thursday posited that mischief makers were at work.

He said: “My invitation has nothing to do with my concerted effort to become the national chairman of our great party, APC as some elements going about spreading false information that, I was arrested by EFCC.

“I was at the Commission on Thursday to respond or give explanation in connection with some petitions against me.

He added that he personally went to EFCC headquarters where he met with Commission boss as well as some officials of the agency and providef them with all the necessary answers.

Senator Al-makura described the rumours as handiwork of enemies, who have nothing to offer, saying that he was not moved an inch.

According to him the anti-graft Commission extended an invitation to him before Sallah break, but which he told them that he would be in the their office immediately after the break and they obliged.

Senator Al-makura further explained that upon his meeting with the EFCC boss, he informed him about petitions against him and they wanted to hear his own side of the stories, just as he said the meeting didn’t exceeded more than 10 minutes.

He reemphasized that his invitation has nothing to do with his ambition to run the affairs of the party at national level.

The former number one citizen of Nasarawa state, reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, adding that he is only waiting for the party guidelines to kickstart campaign
