Pastor Enoch Adeboye has explained how an airport official demanded for bribe from him to allow him fly his helicopter from Lagos to Ibadan on Saturday, April 10, 2021.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) who expressed shock said he was travelling to Ibadan for a special meeting with all ordained ministers of the church in Region 21, Oyo State, on Saturday, but said he came late because the said airport official, demanded for a bribe before he would be allowed to use the country’s airspace.

The Clergy didn’t disclose the name of the airport official while explaining his ordeal at the meeting in Ibadan.

According to him, he was supposed to be at the meeting in Ibadan by 11.00am, but was cornered for another meeting at the airport which they were however not allowed to bring in any gadgets or take photographs at the meeting.

He said: “I arrived late for the meeting because an airport official had requested a bribe from me to fly my helicopter to Ibadan and because I refused, the approval was delayed for about three hours”, he told Region 21 headquarters of RCCG in Ibadan.

He said in order not to be late to the meeting with the ministers due to the possibility of a gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, he decided to embark on the trip with his helicopter but still came late because of the official’s request for bribe.

Unfortunately, the cleric said despite his attempt to be in Ibadan on time, he met a brickwall in the hands of the airport official in spite of his setting out for the trip as early as 9:00 a.m.

According to Adeboye, who spoke while delivering his speech to the over 6,500 ministers at the event: “I don’t give excuses because I have discovered long ago that only failures give excuses. But you must pray for Nigeria.

“Something must be done about corruption in this nation. All I can say is that I’m this late because an airport official wanted a bribe. And you know if you’re expecting a bribe from me, you have to wait forever.

“But the devil has failed. And the devil will continue to fail. Fortunately for me, I decided to leave for Ibadan by 9:00 a.m. I also decided to come by helicopter so that there won’t be a traffic jam that would tie me down on the expressway.

“Then, I ran into something else. But by the grace of God, we’re here,” he said.

Pastor Adeboye added that it took some intervention from the Presidency which ordered express approval for his helicopter to travel to Ibadan before the said airport official could allow the cleric to travel after about three hours delay.
