After the video release of the ‘disturbing’ abducted students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Kaduna State, Plateau State Governor and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Simon Lalong, has said the students would be released soon.
The governor gave assurance when he visited his counterpart in Nasarawa on Saturday, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, saying that they are not resting on their oars.
He claimed that there is an improved security situation in the North, while expressing optimism that the students would be rescued soon.
Lalong said, awareness of the people about security was being raised so that the citizens can be security conscious and also the military was putting measures in place, stating that in few months, abductions and banditry would be a thing of the past.
The governor’s remarks come shortly after the kidnapped students called for help in a disturbing video.
The abductors were seen in the video flogging the students while they made them to speak to government to pay ransom for their freedom.
They were seen huddled together and sitting on tree leaves, with gun-wielding men, some of them dressed in military uniform, keeping watch over them.
