Nasarawa first female acting Chief Judge sworn into office

Governor, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has sworn in first female chief judge Justice Aisha Bashir Aliyu as acting chief judge of the state.

Performing the swearing of the acting chief judge, Sule did not hide his excitement with the large turnout of family members, eminent personalities and the crème-de-la-crème of the judiciary officers in the State who have come from far and near to witness this epoch-making event.

“Your presence is an eloquent testimony of your confidence, support and solidarity with this administration in its effort to provide purposeful leadership, separation of powers and entrenchment of the rule of law, as well as the sustenance of good governance for socio-economic development of the State. He said

CAPITAL POST reports that the appointment of Justice Aisha Bashir Aliyu is coming at a time when Hon. Justice Suleiman Umaru Dikko retired as the Chief Judge of the State.

Governor Sule further explained that, “in fulfilment of the constitutional obligation and based on the recommendation of the Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission in compliance with the provision of section 271 (1), I approved the appointment of Justice Aisha Bashir Aliyu as the Acting Chief Judge of Nasarawa State.”

“Accordingly, the ceremony which we have just performed is in line with the relevant constitutional provision aimed at ensuring sanity and stability in the judiciary as a fundamental institution of society.

He further revealed that the process for the confirmation is being pursued with the State House of Assembly, noting that it has become necessary to swear-in the appointee, the most senior High Court Judge, to enable her perform the functions of the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State to avoid a vacuum.

“As you are aware, the judiciary is the repository of the tenets of democracy and the rule of law”, just as he added that judiciary is critical in our development process as it provides the alloy that strengthens the relationships among the organs of Government.

Governor, Sule stated that base on this particular reason that his administration has continued to accord priority attention to this important arm to enable it meet its objectives and expectations of people of the state.

Governor Sule was with conviction that , Justice Aisha Bashir Aliyu will bring her wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of her new responsibility besfowed on her at this material time.

“You must always remember that as head of the Judicial Arm of Government, you are the symbol of fairness, equity, justice and objectivity which is the hallmark that civilised society yearns for at all times. Sule charge the acting CJ.
