The chairman House Committee on Freedom of Information (FOI) Hon Prince Cornelius Nnaji has said that the committee is willing to partner with the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) to ensure accountability, transparency and delivery of quality services to Nigerians.
Hon Nnaji made the promise on Tuesday during the official Release of 2019/2020 of Federal Government Scorecard for ranking websites of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAS) in Abuja.
Nnaji who was represented by his SLA, Barr. Mike Anibueze said, “If information is proactively published or disclosed in their different and respective websites, perhaps there would not been any need for the lawsuits as citizen would have been adequately informed on the matter.
“As a committee in the House of representatives, we have the mandate of reviewing the existing public policies and laws with a view to making them conform to the Freedom of Information Act 2011, 9th Legislative Agenda and the reform process agenda of the Federal government.
“We are equally saddled with the responsibility of hearing petitions or grievances from the public relating to refusal or non compliance with the provisions of the Act by public institutions.
“I want to assure you that the Committee is willing to partner with you at ensuring that this event is sustained and improved upon for the purpose of accountability, transparency, and delivery of quality services” he added.
The Chairman commended the BPSR for the laudable initiative as well as encouraging the organisers to be steadfast as it possesses the magic wand capable of taking the nations economic fortunes to greater heights.
